Welcome to our web site, we hope you find it helpful and informative. Oakwood School is part of the Oakwood Young People’s Centre situated at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield. It is a sub-regional resource offering specialist care for those young people needing Tier 4, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.
The school offers education for teenagers on Oakwood unit who are experiencing short-term emotional and behavioural difficulties. A range of therapeutic interventions from the multi disciplinary team is made available to the young person and their family as part of their treatment plan. We were pleased with our latest OFSTED report and you can read about it on the OFSTED site or via 'Useful Links'. We were pleased to be awarded almost entirely 'good' (grade2) or 'outstanding' (grade1) across all areas.
We are delighted that last year we were recognised for our achievements by the South Yorkshire E-SYinfo project for our outstanding work in Information,Communiation and Technology . This regional award celebrated the development we have made in this area. We were delighted to receive a £500 voucher towards computer hard ware. And of course in November we achieved the award from BECTA for ICT Excellence.
Following on from our successes this year we have just been awarded the Becta ICT Mark which assesses standards in ICT against other schools nationally.
In 2007 we were also awarded the Government Charter Mark for a further two years. This means that we have been assessed as providing a good service to our pupils and parents who have been asked to contribute evidence of our good practice.
If you are a teenager (ex Oakwood or not) with something to say about Oakwood, please visit the teenagers Guest book and leave us a message. You can also email us on headteacher@oakwood.sheffield.sch.uk. It's really nice to get news of our ex-teenagers, and we look forward to your messages.
If you are a parent thinking about your child coming to Oakwood go to the Governors page on who's who and see what a parent Governor has written about their child's admission to Oakwood. Also browse what parents think about our school to get more information.
There are groups and clubs that meet regularly for both teenagers and parents and carers at Oakwood. See more at the 'news and events' page. Last of all, see our latest Newsletter, also on the Parents page.
Shirle Hill
From April 2009 Oakwood School provides a Tier 4 Service for the primary children who attend the Shirle Hill unit. This unit has been operating for many years as a Special School provision but because of reorganisation within the Local Authority, the school has been re designated as a Educational Service. Parents and pupils will still receive the same service as previously if their child attends the Educational Base.
Please visit the Shirle Hill Links to find out more, see newsletter
