English

The English syllabus is organised in modules on a rolling programme. Over the course of a year pupils will have the opportunity to read and study a novels, biographies and diaries; learn how to research topics and make notes; write fiction and factual accounts ; appreciate and write poetry; and design information leaflets. At the same time we help them to improve their spelling, reading, punctuation and use of grammar.

All the work is based on the National Curriculum attainment targets:
• Reading
• Writing
• Speaking and Listening

and is regularly modified and updated in line with national initiatives to improve teaching and learning in Secondary schools.

Reading for pleasure is encouraged through use of our excellent library and pupils who struggle with reading and understanding are given extra support in the reading group.
